PREPARING FOR YOUR FIRST WAX

RELAX

The pain associated with waxing has more to do with the anxiety and tension a person feels. The more relaxed you are, the less painful the experience will be.

MAKE SURE YOU'RE HAIRY ENOUGH

Before setting an appointment your hair should be at least a ¼ inch long (about the length of a grain of rice), to allow the wax to grab the hair. If it is your first time waxing, then we recommend you refrain from shaving for at least two weeks before your reservation. After your first wax, it is recommended to wax every 3-4 weeks.

MOISTURIZE & EXFOLIATE

Dry hair and dry skin make it easier for your hair to break when removed. To get the smoothest and long-lasting results, the skin and hair should be healthy and moisture-rich in between waxing appointments .

TAKE A PAINKILLER

No, we don’t mean tequila! We recommend you take Tylenol or Advil two hours prior to waxing.

NUMBING CREAM

Products that contain lidocaine are helpful because they will temporarily numb the area and prevent pain.

DOS & DON’TS OF WAXING

N

Do

  • Take two Advil one 1/2 hour before your appointment. Better safe than sorry.
  • Consult Mother Nature before booking your first waxing appointment. Schedule an initial waxing appointment several days after menstruation, when you are less sensitive to discomfort.
  • Wear comfortable cotton panties to avoid irritation if it’s your first time.
  • Limit caffeine intake on the day of your waxing service. Caffeine stimulates the nervous system which increases sensitivity.
  • Inform your Wax Specialist of any medications you are taking, such as antibiotics, Accutane, or topical creams, such as Retin-A.
M

Don't

  • DON’T exercise 24-48 hours after waxing.
  • NEVER wax a new area for the first time right before a big event. You can’t always anticipate your skin’s reaction and you wouldn’t want to spoil an important day.
  • DON’T  shave between waxing appointments. This makes the hair more resistant to future waxing.
  • DON’T expose skin to sun or tanning beds for 24 hours after your wax.
  • DON’T take a hot bath/shower for the first 24 hours. A shower with cool water is ok.
  • DON’T apply moisturizer before any wax service.
  • DON’T apply deodorant to newly waxed underarms.
  • NEVER wax an area after using any type of peels.

If you are not sure about any DOS & DON’TS, please inform our wax specialist.

AFTERCARE

woman jumping for joy after wax

AFTER YOUR FIRST WAX

When jumping for joy after your first wax, it removes the majority of hair. Because hairs grow in different cycles, your next wax will remove the hairs that were still growing below the skin’s surface. After 3-4 sessions, all of your hairs should be growing in the same cycle, leaving you with longer lasting smooth skin.

EXFOLIATE AFTER WAXING

The best way to treat and prevent ingrown is to use a body scrub or serum. A body scrub is a popular body treatment that is basically a facial for the body. It exfoliates and hydrates your skin, leaving it smooth and soft. A body scrub is made with an abrasive material, usually sea salt or sugar mixed with massage and essential oils.

POSSIBLE SIDE EFFECTS OF WAXING

ITCHING

We know it’s hard, but try not to scratch those newly waxed areas. Because the skin will be sensitive, you must be careful not to cause further irritation by scratching. We recommend soothing the area by using an aloe vera gel or our hydrojelly mask treatment.

INGROWN & BUMPS

To prevent ingrown hairs or further skin irritation, we recommend that you use a serum to help prevent and clear ingrown hairs and breakouts as well as calm and nourish the skin. We currently hold the most innovative ingrown serum in the market. Please ask one of our specialist the next time you come in.

STUBBLE

If you’ve just gotten waxed and you are noticing hairs growing rapidly, just know that hair grows in different cycles. It’s possible that the hairs just below the skin have reached the surface after your wax service, resulting in a stubbly feel. Keep moisturizing daily between services and don’t worry, allow these hairs to grow so we can remove them next time we see you.

Pinpoint Bleeding

Pinpoint bleeding during waxing, while uncommon, can occur when a hair follicle is deeply rooted in the skin. This occurs as the waxing process removes the hair from its follicle, sometimes leading to minor bleeding. It’s essential to understand that this is a temporary and natural response. At SweetHeart Brazilian Wax, we prioritize safety and professionalism in our services. Our experienced estheticians are trained to minimize any potential discomfort, and we take every precaution to ensure your well-being during the waxing process.

Histamine Reaction

A histamine reaction is a possible but relatively rare side effect of waxing. This reaction can cause temporary redness, itching, or hives in the waxed area and may last for up to 24-48 hours. At SweetHeart Brazilian Wax, we prioritize your comfort and safety. Our experienced estheticians are trained to recognize and address such reactions promptly. We use high-quality, gentle wax and take every precaution to minimize the risk of histamine reactions, ensuring that your waxing experience is as comfortable and pleasant as possible.

WHAT IS WAXING ALL ABOUT?

The types of wax used are soft wax, hard wax, and sugar. Soft wax is applied and removed by using a cloth or strip. Hard wax is applied and allowed to cool down, once it has cooled down the wax becomes hard which is why a strip is not required. Sugar is applied when the esthetician warms the paste between their fingers and it is then applied and removed.

Benefits of Waxing

Exfoliates

EXFOLIATES

Waxing exfoliates the skin by picking up dead skin cells. So not only are you removing the hair but at the same time receiving skin care.
smoother skin

SMOOTHER SKIN

Waxing pulls the hair from the root leaving your skin looking and feeling smoother than it would after shaving.
Lasting Results

LASTING RESULTS

Since the ingredients used in sugar are all-natural, which is more gentle on your skin and acts as a natural exfoliant.

Slower REGROWTH

SLOWER, THINNER REGROWTH

Because waxing removes hair from the root, the hair will take much longer to grow back than it will with other hair removal methods. When your hair does grow back after waxing, it will grow back weaker, making it finer and softer.
MINIMAL DISCOMFORT

MINIMAL DISCOMFORT

Many people find hair removal methods like epilation and hair removal creams irritating to the skin. However, when performed by our wax specialist to do your waxing with proper technique, it rarely ever causes this problem.

FAST and EASY

FAST & EASY

When you frequently book your waxes, over time all these benefits will decrease the time duration of how long it can take to do your wax. So you will save time and it will feel like a breeze!

WHAT IS SUGARING?

Sugaring is a safe, natural alternative to waxing. Sugar paste for hair removal dates back as far as 1900 B.C. and was first discovered to have originated in Egypt. Sugaring is 100% natural. No chemicals. No preservatives. No irritants. It is simply made out of Sugar, Water and Lemon Juice. Which makes it ideal for sensitive skin. The sugar paste is a natural exfoliate that only adheres to dead skin cells and hair. Since the Sugar DOES NOT remove any live skin cells, any discomfort will subside much more quickly than with wax.

SUGARING VS WAXING

Both methods are very similar, but different techniques of applying and removing the wax, make all the difference. Many people perceive the sugaring technique as less painful, since only the hair is covered from the sugar paste and is not combined with the skin.

Benefits of Sugaring

natural ingredients

ALL NATURAL INGREDIENTS

Sugar wax only consists of natural ingredients water, sugar, and lemon. It is highly recommended for the most sensitive skin.

no burn risk

NO RISK OF BURNING

Sugar paste is only warmed to about body temperature, which results in no risk of burning.

NATURAL EXFOLIANT

NATURAL EXFOLIANT

Since the ingredients used in sugar are all-natural, which is more gentle on your skin and acts as a natural exfoliant.

LESS BREAKAGE

LESS BREAKAGE

Sugar is applied against the direction of hair growth and removal is done in the direction of growth. This leads to less pressure on the hair shaft, which means less breakage.
MINIMAL DISCOMFORT

LIGHTENS & BRIGHTENS

The lemon juice and sugar naturally exfoliate the skin which leaves the skin smoother and brighter.
slower regrowth sugaring

SLOWER REGROWTH

Over time, frequent sugaring can cause the hair follicle to become damaged and stop growing hair.
